Prof. (Dr.) Partha Saha is currently a Professor of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur, India. He received his B. Tech (Hons.) degree in Mechanical Engineering from IIT Kharagpur. He went on to obtain his M. Tech. Degree in Production Science and Technology. He decided to stay back in the country and joined the PhD programme at IIT Kharagpur.
His research areas include non-conventional manufacturing, additive manufacturing, laser processing of materials, micro machining, and novel surface coating techniques for bio-implants.
Prof. Saha was instrumental in establishing various advanced research facilities at IIT Kharagpur. These include a CNC Fiber Laser Workstation with a 2 kW laser, an Excimer laser-based micro-manufacturing setup, a Micro-EDM and Micro-ECM setup, and a Hybrid Metal Additive Manufacturing Unit.
He has authored more than 115 research papers in high-impact journals and another 70 in international conference proceedings. He has filed applications for 07 patents, out of which 5 have already been granted. So far, he has successfully supervised 22 PhD scholars and 82 MTech projects. At present, 3 more PhD scholars are working in his research group covering various aspects of advanced manufacturing.
Prof. Saha executed high-value sponsored projects valued at several crores of rupees involving reputed industries such as Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd, Tata Motors Limited, Tata Sons, the Department of Heavy Industries (Govt of India), and the Ministry of Science and Technology.
Prof. Saha has received several awards, which include Best Paper Awards both in 4th International & 25th All India Manufacturing Technology, Design and Research (AIMTDR) Conference (in 2012), and in 8th International and 29th All India Manufacturing Technology, Design and Research (AIMTDR) Conference (in 2021), and the Gandhian Young Technological Innovation Award in 2020.
Prof (Dr.) Barun Haldar is an experienced academician and researcher in the field of Production Engineering, currently serving as an Associate Professor in Industrial Engineering Department at Imam Mohammad Ibn Saud Islamic University (IMSIU), Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. He holds a Ph.D. from IIT Kharagpur and has over 18 years of teaching and 14 years of research experience. His research interests include advanced manufacturing processes, laser-assisted machining, additive manufacturing, and sustainable production systems. Dr. Haldar has published more than 55 publications in reputed SCI/WoS international journals and holds US and Indian patents. He is actively involved in academic research, peer review, and international collaborations, contributing significantly to the advancement of modern industrial manufacturing technologies.
